F A Q

How do I know if my phone is valid for the offer?

First check that your phone appears on our long list of accepted handsets. If it’s there you will be able to trade it in provided it is recyclable. A recyclable mobile phone is one which:

  • Is in good working condition
  • Can power up and retain a charge
  • Has no water damage
  • Has an intact LCD screen
  • Has little or no cosmetic damage

My phone isn’t on the list – what can I do with it?

There are over 1000 handsets on our list but if yours isn’t there don’t worry. You can send us the details of your mobile via the website and we will contact you within 5 days to provide a value. Alternatively, you can contact a member of our customer care team for an up to date value.

How will you pay me for my phone?

You can choose to be paid by cheque or directly into your bank account by BACS (Banks Automated Clearing System). Your cheque or BACS payment will be issued within 30 days of the receipt of your phone at our processing centre.

What happens to my mobile phone once I have sent it in?

If your mobile phone is in good working order it will be refurbished and sold on for reuse as an affordable means of communication. Those that can’t be repaired are sent to be end of life recycled. The precious metals and other components that can be reused are extracted from the handset and any remaining materials smelted for energy recovery.

How much will I be paid for my phone?

You can check the price of your phone on our website (www.tradeinmymobile.co.uk). All phones are assessed and valued when they reach our processing centre. Occasionally, if your phone does not fully meet our terms and conditions we may not be able to offer you the stated value of your phone. In these cases you will be emailed the price that we will pay for your phone. You will have 14 days to accept or reject the offer. If you accept the offer your payment will be with you within 30 days, if you reject the offer we will send your phone back to you. If you do not respond to the offer within the given 14 days, the mobile phone will be reused or recycled and a £2 donation will be given to Save the Children.

Is there a limit to the number of phones I can send in?

Each household can send in up to five handsets to be recycled.

What are the environmental benefits of recycling my phone?

When old mobile phones are thrown in the bin they end up in landfill sites across the country. Once in these sites the toxic substances that the handsets contain can leak into the surrounding soil polluting waterways and damaging plant and wildlife. There can also be trouble at the top of the site where methane and carbon dioxide gases from the decomposing waste gather. These toxic greenhouse gases contribute to climate change therefore the less waste put into landfill, the better for the environment. You can rest assured that when you recycle your phone with British Gas that it will be disposed of in the most environmentally friendly manner available, either through reuse or recycling.

Do I pay postage when I send my mobile phone(s)?

You do not have to pay anything to send your mobile(s) back to us. Simply place your phone(s) in the freepost envelope that we provide and just post it back to us. We do not accept responsibility for non-delivery of mobile phones by Royal Mail, therefore we recommend that all participants use registered post to ensure safe and successful delivery.

What should I send back to you?

We can reuse or recycle all of the accessories, chargers and manuals that come with mobiles. If you still have them, please just put them into the envelope with your mobile(s) and send back to us.

If you have a question that has not been answered above, please do not hesitate to e-mail us on contact@tradeinmymobile.co.uk or call us on
